Stray Dogs Vaccinated After Public Plea
18 Jul
Summary
- 101 stray dogs were vaccinated against rabies on Saturday.
- Vaccinations occurred across four zones of the urban civic body.
- Public and councillors prompted the Corporation's action.

On Saturday, the Corporation initiated an anti-rabies vaccination drive for stray dogs within its urban limits, covering all four administrative zones. This effort was a direct response to sustained pressure from both the public and local councillors.
During recent grievance redressal and council meetings, repeated calls were made for the Corporation to address the stray dog population and implement rabies prevention measures. In collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry, the civic body successfully apprehended 101 stray dogs for vaccination. These included 23 in Melapalayam Zone, 41 in Thatchanallur zone, 25 in Tirunelveli Zone, and 12 in Palayamkottai zone.
After receiving the vaccines, all dogs were released back into the same areas from which they were collected, ensuring minimal disruption to their environment while addressing public health concerns.
