Stillborn Daughter: Hospital Admits Errors Led to Death
14 May
Summary
- Hospital errors acknowledged in care leading to stillbirth of Lois.
- Medical negligence claim settled out of court in 2025.
- Couple later welcomed another daughter, Iris, honoring Lois.

Lauryn and Andrew McCready experienced the heartbreak of stillbirth after medical errors occurred during labor at Luton and Dunstable Hospital in September 2023. Despite an uncomplicated pregnancy, complications arose during a prolonged labor, which the couple reported as being understaffed. A critical delay in performing a Category 1 cesarean section, as recommended by NICE guidelines, meant that Lois was stillborn. The UK's National Health Service maternity safety investigation found failures in monitoring the baby's heart rate and in timely surgical intervention.
The Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust acknowledged mistakes in Lauryn's care. While the trust did not admit to all claims of negligence, they accepted that an earlier c-section might have led to Lois being born alive. The couple brought a medical negligence claim, which was settled out of court in 2025. Following this tragedy, Lauryn and Andrew have since had another daughter, Iris, but continue to honor Lois's memory.
