28 Jun
Summary
- Nearly 60 lakh polio vaccine doses made available for children.
- Over 1.33 lakh healthcare personnel deployed statewide for the drive.
- Immunisation drive includes booths, mobile units, and door-to-door visits.

The State initiated its Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme on June 28, 2026, with a goal to vaccinate 49.2 lakh children under the age of five. Minister of Health Y. Satya Kumar Yadav launched the campaign, emphasizing the provision of approximately 60 lakh vaccine doses. A significant workforce of 1.33 lakh healthcare professionals has been mobilized across the State.
The immunisation effort is structured in four phases. The initial day saw vaccinations administered at around 30,000 dedicated pulse polio booths. To ensure broad reach, 1,200 mobile medical units are serving remote areas, and transit booths are operational at bus and railway stations. The final two days are dedicated to door-to-door follow-ups to cover all eligible children.
In parallel, the government is enhancing rural primary healthcare with 4,563 Ayushman Arogya Centres established since the NDA government's formation. Preventive measures against seasonal diseases like malaria and dengue are also intensified. In Visakhapatnam district, 1.89 lakh children are targeted, with 1,002 fixed and 62 mobile/transit booths set up, supported by three lakh vaccine doses.
