Fit Woman Missed Stage 4 Cancer Signs
8 Mar
Summary
- Shoulder and chest pain were early signs of Stage 4 breast cancer.
- Bayer never found a lump; diagnosis came from imaging and biopsy.
- She uses social media to raise awareness about overlooked cancer symptoms.

Amelia Bayer, 31, from Harrisonburg, Virginia, has shared her harrowing experience of overlooking symptoms that turned out to be Stage 4 breast cancer. Despite maintaining a fit and active lifestyle, Bayer experienced persistent shoulder and sternum pain, alongside fatigue and reduced stamina while training for races.
Initially dismissing these as overuse injuries or related to endometriosis, her condition worsened. In February 2025, after unbearable chest pain, an emergency room visit led to the discovery of a liver mass. A subsequent biopsy confirmed adenocarcinoma, with breast cancer as the primary concern, despite no lumps being found.
Diagnosed with HER2-positive Stage 4 breast cancer that had metastasized to her bones and liver, Bayer began chemotherapy in March 2025. She now uses platforms like TikTok to raise awareness, emphasizing that cancer symptoms do not always include a lump and urging others to listen to their bodies.
Her journey, documented online, aims to challenge perceptions of cancer and highlight the importance of seeking medical attention when experiencing persistent, unusual symptoms. Bayer credits her community for support during treatment.
