Staffordshire Residents Urged to Get Flu Vaccine as Hospitalizations Rise
10 Nov
Summary
- Only half of over-65s in Staffordshire have received flu vaccine
- Over 12,000 with health conditions also missing free vaccine
- Flu cases increasing, leading to more hospital admissions

As of November 10th, 2025, health authorities in Staffordshire are sounding the alarm about the need for residents to get their free flu vaccines. According to the NHS Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board (ICB), only around half of people in the county aged over 65 have received the vaccine so far, leaving nearly 76,000 in that age group unprotected.
The situation is even more concerning for those with long-term health conditions and compromised immune systems, with over 12,000 in Staffordshire still not having gotten the free shot. "Flu can be far more serious than many people realise, particularly for older adults and those living with long-term health conditions," warned Matthew Missen, a public health consultant at the ICB.
The early arrival of flu season has already led to a worrying increase in hospital admissions across the region due to severe flu infections. Health officials are urging all eligible residents, including the elderly and those with underlying medical issues, to contact their GPs, book appointments online, or attend drop-in vaccination clinics as soon as possible.
