Pediatricians in South Florida are observing a notable increase in flu cases, coinciding with the upcoming holiday season. Dr. Pilar Delgado noted a spike in influenza, with symptoms often overlapping with allergies, making diagnosis challenging.

Last week, one clinic reported 35 positive flu cases out of 113 tested, indicating a 31% positivity rate. This rise in illness also includes cases of strep and RSV, further straining healthcare resources. Doctors emphasize that while mild symptoms like a runny nose are common, parents should seek medical attention if children develop high fevers, lethargy, or reduced appetite.

As families gather for the holidays, health experts urge increased caution, especially for households with elderly or immunocompromised relatives.
