A 19-year-old college student in Madurai has died after consuming borax, reportedly following advice from a social media video promising rapid weight loss. The student, Kalaiyarasi, purchased the substance on January 16.
She consumed it on January 17, which led to immediate symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea. Her mother initially took her to a private hospital where she received treatment and was sent home.
However, her condition deteriorated later that evening. She was taken to another hospital, but by night, she was experiencing severe abdominal pain and bloody stools.
