From Social Line to Six Years of Cocaine Hell
20 Nov
Summary
- Cocaine addiction began with a single line taken socially.
- Addiction led to job loss, debt, and a suicide attempt.
- Recovery involves therapy and Cocaine Anonymous meetings.

A single line of cocaine taken socially in 2019 marked the beginning of a six-year addiction for a 23-year-old woman in Manchester. Initially seeking to fit into a glamorous social circle, she found the drug provided confidence and energy, masking her natural anxiety. What began as occasional use soon escalated, particularly after a new relationship provided easier access to the drug.
By 2021, her use had become more frequent, leading to denial and isolation from her family as comedowns became horrific. Her freelance social media career faltered by 2023 due to missed work and declining quality. Despite spending £500 monthly on cocaine and accumulating debt, she prioritized the drug over essential bills, her appearance and health deteriorating.
After a friend's death in December 2024 and a subsequent suicide attempt, she was hospitalized and finally admitted her addiction to her family. Now 29, she is in recovery through therapy and Cocaine Anonymous, sharing her story to warn others of addiction's insidious progression. She acknowledges relapses but remains committed to accountability.
