Researchers at Savitribai Phule Pune University have developed an innovative digital platform named the 'Sickle Aadhaar App' to significantly improve the quality of life for Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) patients. This initiative is particularly focused on enhancing healthcare access for individuals in India's tribal and rural areas.
The app offers comprehensive patient empowerment tools, including expert medical guidance, medication support, haemoglobin monitoring, and access to crucial government benefits. It also incorporates modules for dietary advice, yoga, meditation, and stress management, all available in regional languages.
Presented at the 'Design for Bharat 2026' challenge on January 14, 2026, the project received recognition for its potential social impact. The data collected is anticipated to aid government agencies in formulating evidence-based SCD policies and programs.
