- Artwork aims to distract patients during lengthy skin cancer treatments.
- Patients report the ceiling art positively impacts their surgical experience.

A vibrant, nature-inspired mural has been installed on the ceiling of a clinic within Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. This initiative by Lingen Davies Cancer Support aims to provide a more calming and inviting atmosphere for skin cancer patients undergoing treatment.
The procedure room is where most skin cancer removals take place, often requiring patients to look upwards for extended periods. Dermatology nurse Helen Childs emphasized the need for a comforting environment, especially for patients undergoing treatment awake under local anesthetic.
The mural, created by Shrewsbury-based artist Charlotte Tisdale, features a woodland scene with insects and winding leaves. Tisdale’s design focuses on being fun, colourful, and engaging to distract patients. Feedback indicates the artwork has successfully contributed to a more positive surgical experience for all age groups.
