X-rays reveal shocking organ descent
13 Feb
Summary
- Woman experienced chronic nausea and abdominal pain for years.
- X-rays showed organs dropping into pelvis when standing.
- Diagnosis of visceroptosis and gastroptosis explained symptoms.

Nikki Noland, a 25-year-old mother from Los Angeles, California, faced years of debilitating nausea and abdominal pain, with medical professionals initially attributing her symptoms to psychological causes. Over time, she accumulated diagnoses including endometriosis, chronic migraines, fibromyalgia, and hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Her persistent gastrointestinal issues, such as severe stomach pain, chronic nausea, and abdominal distention, prompted her to seek a specialist's opinion.
A barium contrast upper body X-ray with delayed abdominal radiographs, conducted in January 2026, provided the breakthrough. While supine X-rays appeared normal, upright images strikingly demonstrated that Noland's abdominal organs descended into her pelvis when she stood. This led to her diagnosis with stage II visceroptosis and stage II gastroptosis, conditions involving the displacement of abdominal organs and the stomach, respectively, below their normal positions.
