A new 24/7 mental health support centre, the Gleadless and Heeley Centre, is scheduled to open in Sheffield later this month, providing a dedicated safe space for individuals experiencing a crisis. This facility is part of a wider NHS pilot across six English sites, designed to offer accessible walk-in, telephone, and referred support.
The £1.3m project, funded by NHS England, will be housed in refurbished buildings at Newfield Green, including the local library and Terry Wright Community Hall, alongside an expanded Newfield Green Clinic. The centre's team possesses expertise in urgent and crisis care, early intervention, and community health.
Services will include overnight support and personalized, flexible care aimed at preventing crises. A new wellbeing café, already open and operating from 08:00 to 22:00 daily, offers immediate support for those feeling distressed or overwhelmed. The initiative seeks to simplify access to mental health services and enhance coordination among various health providers.
