SGPGIMS Doctors Win Big at IAPSCON 2026!

The department of paediatric surgical superspecialities at SGPGIMS has secured major national recognition at IAPSCON 2026, held in Bengaluru. Its faculty and resident doctors collectively won numerous prestigious awards, underscoring their excellence in clinical innovation and research.
Basant Kumar, the department head, received the 'National Leadership Award 2026 in Paediatric Surgery' for his significant contributions to patient care, teaching, and academic leadership. Ankur Mandelia was awarded two first prizes for scientific papers detailing nephropathy post-porto-systemic shunt surgery and the safety of intraoperative enteroscopy in paediatric patients.
Further honors were bestowed upon the department's resident doctors. (Lt Col) Rahul Goyal won the 'UC Chakraborty Gold Medal for Best Research Paper 2026' for his work on splenic shear-wave elastography in portal hypertension. MCh residents Shuchi Varshney and Anand Kumar Maurya also secured first prizes for their studies on paediatric extragonadal germ cell tumours and infant hindgut duplications, respectively. Pooja Prajapati earned two second prizes for research concerning liver fibrosis biomarkers in biliary atresia and rare pancreatic tumours.
