A young teenager has made an inspiring recovery after a life-threatening battle with sepsis. Felicity-Jo, aged 13, was placed on life support for two weeks following a severe sepsis reaction. Her ordeal began in early February with symptoms initially mistaken for a common stomach bug.
Despite initial treatment for vomiting and abdominal pain, Felicity-Jo was discharged. However, her condition deteriorated significantly by mid-March, leading to her collapse and admission to intensive care. Doctors later discovered she had congenital scar tissue in her bowel, known as adhesions.
These adhesions caused a bowel obstruction and infection, triggering sepsis. Felicity-Jo underwent emergency surgeries and was placed in an induced coma. She has since been fitted with a stoma bag and diagnosed with blood clots, requiring lifelong blood thinners.
Despite the severe challenges, Felicity-Jo has regained her speech and taken her first steps in nearly a month. Her mother is now urging others to recognize sepsis symptoms and trust their instincts if something feels wrong.
