Health authorities in Malaysia's Johor state have refuted social media claims that Segamat Hospital is set to close on July 1, 2026. The state health department, the Ministry of Health (KKM), and the health minister have all issued statements confirming that the hospital will continue its operations without interruption.
Falsehoods circulating on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Threads alleged the hospital would shut down due to a lack of manpower. However, official statements from the Johor State Health Department and interim chairman of Johor state's Health and Environment Committee Ling Tian Soon affirmed that Segamat Hospital remains open.
Ling Tian Soon confirmed a shortage of 49 doctors at Segamat Hospital, which currently has 120 doctors. He has escalated this issue to the health ministry. Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad assured that patients will continue receiving treatment, with outpatients being referred to nearby facilities if necessary, emphasizing that health services will not be compromised.
