Scotland's New Clinics: Capacity & Commitment Revealed
25 Feb
Summary
- Edinburgh centre aims for 60 patients daily, totaling over 21,000 annually.
- Grampian plans 20-minute appointments for its three proposed sites.
- Fife submitted a proposal for a Buckhaven clinic with 64,240 appointments.

New walk-in health clinics are being established across Scotland, with early data indicating their potential patient capacity. In Lothian, an Edinburgh-based center is being set up with a team including a GP, nurse, and physio, aiming to see up to 60 patients each day. This could equate to over 21,000 patients seen annually, excluding public holidays.
NHS Grampian has detailed plans for three clinics in Aberdeen, Elgin, and Peterhead. These sites will be staffed by eight GPs and three triage nurses, with appointments allocated 20 minutes to account for the risks of seeing new patients. The board projects capacity for 90,720 patient slots annually across these locations.
Further afield, NHS Fife submitted a proposal last month for a walk-in clinic in Buckhaven. This facility anticipates accommodating 64,240 appointments each year, though formal agreement on this proposal is still pending. Separately, Benbecula is set to open a new clinic next month, operating seven days a week from 09:00 to 17:30.
