Camborne Science & International Academy in Cornwall confirmed two isolated cases of scabies, an itchy skin infestation caused by mites.
Public Health England (PHE) was alerted and advised that there is no cause for concern, as the two affected pupils have recovered and returned to school. Staff and parents received guidance on recognizing symptoms.
This incident occurs amidst a national rise in scabies cases, with diagnoses increasing by 44% between 2023 and 2024. Scabies is spread through close skin contact and requires treatment to prevent transmission.
