Rutland County Council has committed £1.6 million towards expanding healthcare services at Rutland Memorial Hospital. This investment, approved by the council's cabinet, will fund crucial refurbishments for minor illness and injury services, alongside significant upgrades to the hospital's X-ray facilities.
The total project investment will reach £2.25 million, leveraging an additional £650,000 from the Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland Integrated Care Board. This initiative represents the most substantial investment in local health facilities in a decade.
The allocated funds will facilitate the refurbishment of the hospital's left wing, including the installation of a new X-ray machine. The goal is to restore the X-ray service to its pre-pandemic operational level of five days per week. Furthermore, the number of consultation rooms will double from three to six, significantly increasing capacity for the Oakham Medical Practice.
This funding will also bolster the provision of a same-day minor illness and injury service, which was launched on April 1. The investment is sourced from the Community Infrastructure Levy, collected from housing development. Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2026, with completion anticipated by October 2027.
