Summary
- Mother denies daughter broke test tube causing infection.
- Russian agency states death from unknown pneumonia.
- WHO and CDC are monitoring the situation closely.

The mother of a 28-year-old researcher at the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Research Institute has refuted claims that her daughter's death was caused by a broken test tube.
Svetlana Shipilova, herself a medical professional, stated she believes the circulating story about her daughter's demise is inaccurate, asserting "I know the truth." She highlighted the impossibility of such an accident occurring with the secure laboratory equipment used.
Russian public health agency Rospotrebnadzor announced the woman passed away from "pneumonia of unknown origin." Investigations have reportedly found no evidence that her illness was connected to any of the pathogens she worked with at the institute.
Both the World Health Organization and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed they are aware of and closely monitoring the developments in Russia's Irkutsk region.
