RML Hospital Launches Pediatric Cardiology Super-Specialty Course
7 Mar
Summary
- RML Hospital will launch a DM in paediatric cardiology in 2025-26.
- The new course aims to address the shortage of trained paediatric cardiac specialists.
- It will focus on childhood heart diseases and catheter-based interventions.

The Dr Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital will commence a super-specialty Doctor of Medicine (DM) course in paediatric cardiology for the 2025-26 academic session. This program, approved by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and offered at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences (ABVIMS) and RML Hospital, will admit two students initially. The establishment of this course is a significant development given the limited training opportunities in paediatric cardiology within India, a critical field for treating heart disorders in infants and children.
This initiative is expected to bolster the public sector's capacity to train paediatric cardiology specialists. Dr Dinesh Yadav, head of paediatrics at RML Hospital, highlighted that the program's focus on childhood heart diseases, neonatal care, and congenital conditions, alongside catheter-based interventions, will be crucial. Congenital heart defects affect approximately two lakh newborns in India each year, underscoring the demand for such specialized care and training. The new DM course at RML Hospital is poised to improve both the availability of trained professionals and treatment outcomes for children with complex heart conditions.
