Summary
- Retatrutide achieved 28.3% weight loss in 80 weeks at highest dose.
- Over 25% of subjects lost over 35% body weight, nearing surgery results.
- Adverse events were similar to incretin therapies, with UTIs a new signal.

The investigational drug retatrutide has shown remarkable efficacy in treating obesity, according to Phase III TRIUMPH-1 trial results presented on June 6, 2026. Participants receiving the highest dose (12mg) experienced an average body weight reduction of 28.3% over 80 weeks.
Further analysis revealed that over 25% of subjects achieved a weight loss of 35% or more, a level comparable to bariatric surgery outcomes. The trial, involving 2,339 adults with obesity or overweight, saw the 12mg dose group achieve a BMI below 30 kg/m² in over 65% of participants.
Adverse events associated with retatrutide were largely consistent with other incretin-based therapies, predominantly gastrointestinal issues. However, urinary tract infections were identified as a new safety concern. Eli Lilly anticipates submitting a new drug application for retatrutide by late 2026 or early 2027.
