Recalled Baby Formula Still Found on Shelves
25 Mar
Summary
- Recalled ByHeart infant formula continues to be sold months after recall.
- Regulators warn discount retailers may still carry the product.
- Infant botulism is a rare but potentially fatal illness linked to the formula.

Despite a nationwide recall initiated months ago, recalled ByHeart infant formula is still appearing for sale, raising significant concerns for infant safety. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ordered the voluntary recall of all batches of ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula after federal investigators linked it to numerous cases of infant botulism, a rare but severe illness. Regulators have noted that these recalled products, including both cans and packets, are still circulating, particularly in discount, salvage, and surplus retail outlets. Health officials stress that expiration dates do not supersede recall status; the formula remains unsafe regardless of its printed date. The recall encompasses all batches of ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula, irrespective of lot number or expiration date, due to its connection with confirmed and probable cases of infant botulism nationwide. Infant botulism occurs when babies ingest Clostridium botulinum spores, which can lead to serious health issues, including respiratory failure. Although no new cases have been reported since December 2025, parents are advised to remain vigilant and monitor their children for symptoms that can take weeks to develop. Any recalled formula found in homes should be discarded immediately. Retailers and distributors are instructed to remove and destroy any recalled or outdated infant products found in their inventory. The FDA advises caregivers to always verify the brand name, product description, and recall status before using any infant formula.
