Pregnant Woman's Life Saved After 6kg Uterus Fibroid Removal

In a remarkable medical feat, doctors at MDM Hospital's Zanana Wing in Jodhpur successfully removed a massive 6kg uterine fibroid from a pregnant patient, saving both her and her unborn child. The 31-year-old woman, Payal from Ajmer, was admitted in June 2025 during her fourth month of pregnancy with severe abdominal pain and swelling.

Diagnostic imaging revealed a uterine fibroid of extraordinary size, measuring approximately 22 × 18 × 16 cm. Such large fibroids during pregnancy are exceedingly rare, impacting an estimated one in eight to ten lakh cases. Recognizing the life-threatening risks, the medical team opted for a complex myomectomy during the second trimester, a procedure that necessitated six units of blood transfusion.

After a successful surgery and a 15-day recovery period, Payal was discharged under close observation. At 30 weeks of gestation, she experienced renewed discomfort and was readmitted. On January 3, a planned caesarean section resulted in the birth of a healthy baby girl. Both mother and child were discharged in good health.
