A six-year-old girl from Uzbekistan with a rare congenital condition causing abnormal facial bone development has undergone a complex 10-hour reconstructive surgery in Noida. The condition, characterized by widely spaced eyes and nasal deformities, made treatment difficult in her home country.
A multidisciplinary team of specialists at a private hospital performed the delicate procedure, which involved operating near the brain and optic nerves. Surgeons meticulously repositioned skull and facial bones to bring the eye sockets closer, reducing the gap between the eyes from 45 mm to 28 mm, and reconstructed the nose using a bone graft.
The child experienced a challenging post-operative period, including secondary pneumonia, which was managed by the medical teams. She has now been discharged in stable condition, displaying normal vision and age-appropriate mobility, marking a successful outcome for this technically demanding case.
