Conjoined twins born with two heads and a single torso at MKCG Medical College and Hospital have passed away. The infants, who arrived on October 11, succumbed to their complex health conditions on Saturday. Born to a first-time mother and a daily wager, the twins were critically ill since birth.
Doctors at the government-run hospital explained that despite their best efforts, the twins' severe health issues, including respiratory problems, made survival impossible. The surgical team attempted interventions but could not proceed due to the critical nature of their condition.
This rare occurrence of dicephalic parapagus affects roughly one in every three lakh births. The twins, male, weighed 2.250kg at birth, possessing two heads and necks but sharing one torso, one heart, one liver, and a single set of limbs. Their internal anatomy presented significant challenges, including a shared urinary tract and no anal opening.
