Ramanathapuram Government Medical College Hospital has commenced advanced oncological surgeries, marking a significant development in local cancer care. Recently, a team of specialized surgical oncologists successfully operated on a 55-year-old man for soft tissue sarcoma in his thigh. The patient recovered well and was discharged.
Further advancements include successful surgeries for a 47-year-old woman diagnosed with cervical cancer and a 65-year-old man with rectal cancer. These critical treatments are provided free of charge, including chemotherapy, making advanced cancer care accessible within the district.
To expand its capabilities, Ramanathapuram GH has laid the foundation stone for a radiation therapy building. This facility is anticipated to be operational within a year, currently, patients requiring radiation therapy are referred to Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital. The hospital also offers breast cancer screenings.
