Rajasthan Awarded for Awareness, Lags in Transplants

Rajasthan recently received national recognition for its organ donation awareness initiatives, securing the 'Award for Excellence in Organ Donation Awareness' at a program organized by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO). This award celebrates the state's sustained efforts in promoting awareness and strengthening public outreach.

However, this commendation starkly contrasts with Rajasthan's modest organ transplant achievements. Between 2025 and March 2026, the state reported only 12 cadaver organ donations. This low number underscores a critical challenge: while awareness campaigns have gained national attention, the state's transplant infrastructure has not seen commensurate expansion.

Officials noted that a lack of adequate infrastructure is a primary obstacle. In 2025, the central government sought detailed information from the Rajasthan government regarding its transplant infrastructure, including the capabilities of both government and private hospitals for multi-organ transplants. Efforts are underway to further expand awareness and build a robust transplant system to provide life-saving support to more patients.
