18 Oct
Summary
- Two women died at New Medical College Hospital from postpartum complications.
- One patient, Roshan Bairwa, died from severe postpartum hemorrhage.
- Another patient, Reshma, died from kidney complications after C-section.
A serious maternal health concern has emerged at New Medical College Hospital in Rajasthan, where two women have died from postpartum complications within a single day. The first fatality involved 40-year-old Reshma, who passed away on Friday night following her fourth C-section delivery on October 14. Her family has alleged medical negligence and administrative apathy.
Shortly after, on Saturday noon, Roshan Bairwa, a high-risk patient suffering from severe anemia, died from sudden complications after undergoing a C-section. She had been transferred from a private hospital on Friday evening. Hospital authorities stated that Roshan's death was due to severe postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) despite blood transfusions, and was unrelated to the other patient's kidney issues.
Roshan's family declined an autopsy, and her body was released. Meanwhile, another patient, Anita, who also developed kidney complications after her C-section on Wednesday, is in stable condition in the super-speciality block. This follows a tragic incident in May where 12 women experienced kidney problems post-childbirth, resulting in five deaths.
