- Rajasthan collects nearly nine lakh units of blood annually.
- SMS Medical College honors voluntary donors on June 14.

On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, celebrated annually on June 14, health officials in Rajasthan have highlighted a significant increase in voluntary blood donations. Voluntary donors now account for approximately 73% of the blood collected by government-run blood banks across the state.
Rajasthan collects around nine lakh units of blood each year, with nearly four lakh units sourced through government facilities. The remaining 27% of blood collection still relies on replacement donations from patients' relatives or attendants, underscoring the ongoing need to expand the base of voluntary donors.
SMS Medical College is implementing measures to encourage more citizens to donate blood. As an incentive, every voluntary donor at the SMS Hospital Blood Center on World Blood Donor Day, June 14, 2026, will be recognized. This initiative aims to ensure a consistent and adequate blood supply.
Furthermore, the Rajasthan chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India recently organized a blood donation camp at SMS Hospital, coupled with a plantation drive. Doctors, resident doctors, and medical students actively participated, reinforcing the importance of regular blood donation and its life-saving impact.
