Hall County officials are alerting residents to a potential rabies exposure in the North Hall area of Clearmont. A dog that had contact with a person was confirmed to have rabies after testing at the Georgia Public Health Lab in Decatur on Wednesday.
In response, warning signs are being placed in the vicinity. The county is advising residents living nearby to contact Hall County Animal Services or Dispatch if they observe any animals exhibiting unusual behavior.
As Georgia is a rabies-endemic state, year-round vigilance is necessary. Officials stress the importance of keeping pets vaccinated and avoiding contact with animals that appear unwell. The CDC notes that rabies is a near-fatal nervous system disease.
The Hall County Animal Shelter on Barber Road provides vaccinations for $10 from Tuesday through Friday.
