Punjab has recorded its first suspected swine flu fatality of the season. An 85-year-old man from Jalandhar, who tested positive for H1N1, died while undergoing treatment. He had a pre-existing condition of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which complicated his case.
The state has now confirmed 220 H1N1 cases this year, with 14 new cases reported recently as infections continue to rise. This figure is significantly higher than the seven cases recorded by Punjab until September 30 of the previous year.
Ludhiana has reported the highest number of cases at 72, followed by SAS Nagar (Mohali) with 36 cases. Other districts like Patiala (16), Moga (11), and Jalandhar (10) have also reported a notable number of infections.
