Summary
- Food allowance for inmates in rehab centers increased to ₹200.
- New menu includes fruits, salad, paneer/eggs weekly, and daily lassi.
- Revised guidelines aim for balanced nutrition and uniformity in meals.

The Punjab health department has raised the daily food allowance for inmates in its drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centers from ₹150 to ₹200 per person for three meals. This adjustment aims to ensure patients receive better nutrition during their recovery.
A standardized food menu has been implemented across all government-run centers. This new diet plan includes daily servings of fruits and salad, along with dry fruits. Additionally, patients will receive paneer or eggs once a week to boost protein intake.
To further enhance nutritional value, a daily serving of lassi from Verka has been incorporated. This initiative, welcomed by employee unions who previously found the ₹150 budget inadequate, seeks to provide balanced meals crucial for the physical and mental well-being of individuals undergoing substance abuse treatment.
