In Punjab, the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana has disbursed Rs 20.2 crore towards the treatment of 8,069 cancer patients by July 18. Data from the State Health Agency reveals that adults aged 36 to 60 years represent the largest demographic group seeking care, with 4,285 individuals in this age bracket receiving treatment.
Cancer care utilization under the scheme has seen a steady increase throughout the year. Treatment numbers rose from 842 in January to a peak of 1,468 in June. As of July 20, the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana has funded a total of 5,31,386 treatment episodes across all beneficiaries, amounting to Rs 950.3 crore.
Punjab's Health Minister, Dr. Balbir Singh, emphasized the scheme's role in removing financial barriers to cancer treatment. He stated that early diagnosis and timely intervention are crucial for improving patient outcomes, underscoring the government's commitment to providing quality cancer care without financial hardship being a deterrent.
