Pune district is poised to launch Maharashtra's inaugural 100-bed dedicated critical care hospital next month. Situated on the Aundh District Hospital campus, this facility is funded by the Union Health Ministry under the PM-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission.
The ground-plus-two-storey building is designed to manage severe medical emergencies, critical illnesses, and potential outbreak scenarios. Construction is nearing completion, with a target inauguration date set for next month.
This significant addition to Pune's public health infrastructure will include 20 ICU beds (4 pediatric), 20 HDU beds (4 pediatric), and a 30-bed isolation ward with 12 separate rooms for infectious diseases. It will also house two operation theaters and rapid diagnostic labs.
Officials emphasize that the hospital's design reflects lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, aiming to strengthen district-level preparedness for surges in critical patients and manage public health emergencies effectively.
