Patient Dies After Alleged Neglect in Hospital
10 Mar
Summary
- Patient allegedly denied timely ICU admission despite critical condition.
- Family claims repeated requests for urgent medical attention were ignored.
- Health department initiated a three-member inquiry committee probe.

A patient's death has sparked an investigation into alleged medical negligence at a Pune hospital. Sanket Suryawanshi, a resident of Sangvi, was admitted on March 6 with severe breathing difficulties due to pneumonia. His family claims he was denied immediate ICU admission, despite critically low oxygen saturation levels.
Family members allege that doctors and staff delayed attending to Mr. Suryawanshi and initially dismissed the need for ICU care. The patient's condition deteriorated overnight, with reported bleeding from the nose. He was allegedly moved to the ICU only around 6 am, hours after his condition became unstable.
Tragically, Mr. Suryawanshi's condition worsened, and his heartbeat stopped by 9 am. Following this, he was declared dead by hospital staff. The deceased's sister has called for action against the night shift staff and doctors, emphasizing the need for immediate ICU access or timely referral for emergency patients.
In response to the complaint, the health department has formed a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death. Officials stated that further action will be based on the committee's findings. The deputy director of health services for the Pune region has directed the committee to submit its report at the earliest.
