Summary
- Regular thiamine supplementation is crucial for mothers and infants.
- Awareness campaigns and IEC activities aid deficiency identification.
- Malnourished children aged 0-6 must be screened and referred to NRC.

Mandya Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer K.R. Nandini emphasized the critical need for consistent thiamine (Vitamin B1) supplementation for new mothers and infants to avert fatalities caused by deficiency. She highlighted that these infant deaths are preventable through coordinated efforts by the Health Department and timely interventions.
The CEO also stressed the importance of ongoing awareness drives promoting thiamine-rich food consumption and effective Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) strategies. This facilitates early detection and prompt treatment of thiamine deficiency, a significant concern for infant health in the region.
Furthermore, Ms. Nandini directed ASHA and anganwadi workers to collaborate in identifying malnourished children, recommending regular screening for all children aged 0-6. Severely malnourished children must be referred to the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre for mandatory care, ensuring their health and development.
