- One twin had a severe congenital defect requiring immediate intervention.
- Babies spent 126 days in NICU before returning home.
Six years after their marriage, Shiv and Uma (names changed) welcomed identical twin boys on May 29, born prematurely at just 28 weeks gestation. The newborns were admitted to a private hospital on May 30.
One twin, weighing a mere 730 grams, was diagnosed with oesophageal atresia, a severe congenital defect. This condition required immediate surgery on May 30, performed by pediatric surgeon Dr. Md Imran, despite the infant's extremely low birth weight and prematurity.
Following the successful two-hour surgery to correct the anomaly, the infant remained on ventilation for 25 days, followed by non-invasive support for another 35 days. Doctors carefully managed the baby's respiratory needs, nutrition, and infection risks throughout his extended NICU stay.
After 126 days in the hospital, the baby showed satisfactory recovery, reaching approximately 1.54 kg. He was discharged on Friday, marking the end of months of uncertainty for his parents and the beginning of their journey home with their child.
