- Doctors performed emergency mechanical thrombectomy to remove blood clot.
- Mother and baby boy delivered safely after successful treatment.

Doctors at KIMS Seethammadhara have achieved a significant medical success by treating a critically ill, nine-month pregnant patient who experienced a life-threatening ischemic stroke. The patient, from the Visakhapatnam region, presented with sudden right-sided weakness and speech loss.
Immediate investigations revealed major blockages in her brain's blood vessels, necessitating an urgent mechanical thrombectomy. This procedure, performed by the Neuro and Vascular Intervention team, successfully removed the blood clot and restored cerebral blood flow.
The pregnancy added complexity, but a dedicated obstetrics team closely monitored both mother and fetus throughout the intervention and recovery. Once the mother's condition stabilized, a Caesarean section was performed, resulting in the safe delivery of a healthy baby boy.
Physicians emphasized that stroke during the advanced stages of pregnancy is rare but perilous. They urged immediate medical attention for any stroke symptoms during pregnancy, regardless of the gestational stage.
