A 25-year-old woman succumbed to post-caesarean complications at Bikaner's PBM Hospital, marking the third such death at the facility recently. The woman had been in the ICU for 36 days following complications that arose a day after her caesarean delivery on June 8. Initially, both mother and baby were stable, but she subsequently experienced a complete cessation of urinary output. Doctors provided intensive care, including dialysis and ventilator support, and consulted specialists from AIIMS Jodhpur, but she could not be saved.
This incident is part of a concerning pattern in Rajasthan's government-run hospitals. Since May, a total of 19 maternal deaths have been recorded across the state. PBM Hospital in Bikaner has reported three of these fatalities, with two other women dying from post-delivery complications within days of each other in late June. A common symptom among these deceased patients was the stoppage of urine output within 24 hours of their caesarean surgeries.
Other districts have also reported significant numbers of maternal deaths. Kota has recorded five such fatalities, while Bhilwara and Banswara each have five cases. Jodhpur has reported two maternal deaths. The increasing number of these tragic outcomes highlights a critical issue in maternal healthcare across the state.
