- Sleep efficiency rose from 79% to 93% within a month.
- Involved adults suffering from chronic sleeplessness.

Researchers have found promising results for a new insomnia treatment using "poop pills." A recent randomized controlled trial, published in the Journal of Internal Medicine, explored the use of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) capsules.
These capsules transfer gut bacteria, typically from donor stool samples, to recipients. In the study, adults with chronic sleeplessness received FMT capsules derived from individuals with excellent sleep patterns. Participants who took the FMT pills experienced a significant improvement in their sleep continuity and subjective insomnia outcomes.
One month after taking the capsules, sleep efficiency among participants rose from 79% to 93%. Additionally, the time spent awake during the night decreased substantially, from an average of 79 minutes to just 17 minutes. In contrast, a placebo group showed minimal sleep improvement.
