In a significant public health initiative, the pulse polio immunisation drive commenced on Sunday across Nandyal, Anantapur, and Kurnool districts. District officials formally launched the campaign, underscoring the importance of administering polio drops to children aged 0 to 5. This drive is crucial for maintaining India's polio-free status, especially given sporadic cases in neighbouring countries.
Across the districts, extensive arrangements have been made, with over 700,000 children slated to receive the vaccine. Nandyal aims to vaccinate 238,000 children across 1,320 centres. Anantapur has established 1,623 booths for approximately 283,430 children, while Kurnool is utilizing 1,630 booths, 52 transit centres, and 33 mobile units for its vaccination efforts.
Special provisions have been made to ensure accessibility, with vaccination centres set up at bus and railway stations, as well as airports, to cater to travelling children. Officials emphasized that the vaccine is safe and can be administered even to children experiencing common ailments. Door-to-door visits are scheduled to ensure complete coverage.
