Police Life-Saving Spray Used More Than Expected

North Yorkshire Police have reported a higher-than-anticipated usage of a crucial life-saving spray designed to counteract opioid overdoses. This initiative, which began in April 2024, has seen 337 police officers and PCSOs receive training to carry and administer naloxone.
The spray has been deployed on 37 occasions. Force harm reduction officer Danny Stannard confirmed that 17 of these incidents involved individuals whose lives were saved or whose health was significantly improved by the officers' intervention.
This proactive approach by law enforcement aims to provide immediate assistance in critical overdose situations, potentially buying vital time for paramedics and ambulances to reach the scene and offer further medical care.
