Summary
- Inspectors cited five restaurants for 26 health violations last week.
- Violations included touching food after floor contact and using trash items.
- Some establishments stored food at unsafe temperatures, leading to discard.

During the week of July 6, Maricopa County health inspectors identified 26 health violations at five metro Phoenix restaurants. These violations posed a risk of foodborne illness. Significant issues included employees touching food after handling items from the floor and improper handwashing procedures.
Several establishments faced citations for improper food storage. For example, eggs and meats were stored at unsafe temperatures, leading to discards. Additionally, some restaurants were found to be storing food in inappropriate containers like grocery bags.
Sanitation lapses were also noted, with dishwashers not dispensing adequate sanitizer. Cross-contamination risks, such as raw meat stored above ready-to-eat foods, were also cited. Some cooked foods were past their discard dates or not kept hot enough.
Despite these violations, inspectors visited approximately 1,130 food-serving facilities, with nearly 300 achieving an 'A' rating for their adherence to health standards.
