3 Sep
Summary
- Male service members aged 30+ will undergo mandatory testosterone screening.
- Screenings will occur during regular health assessments for troops.
- The Pentagon aims to improve Warfighter health, performance, and readiness.

Effective immediately, the Pentagon is implementing mandatory testosterone screenings for all male service members aged 30 and older. These tests will be integrated into regular health assessments for active-duty and reserve troops.
The Defense Health Agency has issued clinical guidelines for the screening process. Service members diagnosed with hypogonadism, or low testosterone, will be offered further evaluation and treatment options, including testosterone replacement therapy.
This policy update, announced on Wednesday, is intended to enhance 'Warfighter readiness' by directly impacting physical strength, bone density, and mental health. Service members under 30 will have the option to undergo annual screenings.
Female service members will be asked about symptoms of hormonal dysregulation and referred for additional assessments if necessary. The Defense Department states its goal is to 'invest in the health of its warfighters' and maximize performance.
