Pecan Recall Issued Nationwide Due to Salmonella Contamination
5 Aug
Summary
- Voluntary recall of 32,670 pounds of pecan products
- Potential Salmonella contamination poses serious health risks
- Distributed to 5 U.S. states and 3 international countries

On July 10, 2025, Texas-based Navarro Pecan Holdings announced a voluntary recall of 32,670 pounds of pecan products due to potential Salmonella contamination. The recalled items were distributed to commercial and retail outlets in five U.S. states - Texas, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and New Jersey - as well as internationally to Italy, the Netherlands, and the United Arab Emirates.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified this as a Class I recall, indicating a "reasonable probability" that the contaminated nuts could cause "serious adverse health consequences or death." Salmonella infections can lead to severe symptoms like fever, diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain, and pose the greatest risk to young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
While no illnesses have been reported yet, the FDA is urging consumers who purchased the recalled pecan products to return them to the retailer for a full refund. Salmonella contamination can occur at various stages of the production process, from harvesting to storage, and the company is investigating the source of the issue. Experts warn that even processed foods like flour can become contaminated with the bacteria.
