Dengue Alert: Patna Gears Up for Mosquito Season
22 Aug
Summary
- Patna Municipal Corporation intensifies fogging and anti-larval operations.
- Operations target mosquito-breeding hotspots across the city.
- Four hundred sanitation workers trained to combat dengue effectively.
As the post-monsoon period approaches, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is intensifying its efforts to combat the rising threat of dengue. Fogging and anti-larval operations are now active across the city, with a particular focus on identified mosquito-breeding hotspots. These priority areas include construction sites, vacant plots, drains, waterlogged zones, markets, and residential complexes.
The PMC's strategy involves round-the-clock fogging in two shifts, with additional rounds in critical areas. Complementing this, anti-larval spraying is targeting numerous locations. A significant measure includes the training of approximately 400 sanitation workers. These personnel are now equipped to identify larvae, operate specialized equipment, and correctly apply insecticides like temephos for larvae and malathion for adult mosquitoes, adhering to strict standard operating procedures.
To ensure comprehensive coverage, the PMC has deployed a fleet of machines across its six administrative circles. Vehicle-mounted and handheld machines are being utilized to reach both open areas and narrow lanes inaccessible to larger vehicles. This coordinated approach aims to significantly control vector-borne diseases and protect public health during the dengue season.
