Parkrun Confidence Crisis: 50% Lack Confidence to Attend Alone
22 Jun
Summary
- Half of people with accessibility needs lack confidence to attend parkrun alone.
- Many are unaware of existing accessibility support at parkrun events.
- A new pilot initiative aims to co-create practical solutions for inclusion.

Nearly half of individuals with accessibility needs report a lack of confidence preventing them from attending parkrun events independently. Research indicates that around 33% of those who haven't participated are keen to try, with 21% feeling they are missing out on social connections. A significant barrier for 13% is the fear of attending alone.
In response, Specsavers and parkrun have partnered to launch a pilot initiative this summer. This program aims to collaboratively develop practical solutions by listening to and learning from the community. The goal is to enhance support, boost confidence, and ensure parkrun events are welcoming and accessible for everyone, aligning with parkrun's health and inclusion strategy.
