- This technology aims to improve transplant success and reduce waiting times.

The Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) in Thiruvananthapuram has significantly advanced its paediatric cancer care capabilities with the acquisition of a cutting-edge cryo freeze machine. This essential equipment, crucial for bone marrow transplantation (BMT) procedures, was donated through the 'gift a dream' initiative of Kanal Innovations Charitable Trust, with financial backing from Guidehouse India Private Ltd. The formal handover ceremony took place recently at RCC.
Bone marrow transplantation is a critical treatment for severe conditions like leukaemia, lymphoma, and neuroblastoma. The new cryo-freeze machine will greatly improve the preservation and processing of stem cells during BMT. This enhancement ensures optimal storage conditions, maintaining stem cell quality and thereby increasing the likelihood of successful transplants and better patient outcomes.
Officials at RCC anticipate that this facility will enable them to expand their bone marrow transplant services. The improved capacity is expected to reduce waiting periods for patients and offer safer, more effective treatments to a larger number of children in the future, offering renewed hope for recovery.
