Owner and Dog Conquer Cancer Together
9 Apr
Summary
- Woman diagnosed with breast cancer twice, dog diagnosed once.
- Both owner and dog underwent successful mastectomies.
- They now live life to the fullest, cancer-free.

Vickie, a recruiter from Ascot, Berkshire, was first diagnosed with invasive breast cancer at age 39, despite being fit and healthy with no detectable lump. After successful chemotherapy, a lumpectomy, and radiotherapy, the cancer returned in 2018. Subsequent genetic testing revealed she carries the BRCA2 gene, prompting an elective double mastectomy.
During her recovery, Vickie welcomed Poochon Dolly in October 2018. Seven years later, in February 2026, Dolly was diagnosed with breast cancer after showing stomach pain. The dog underwent a successful canine mastectomy and has since recovered.
Both Vickie and Dolly are now cancer-free. Vickie, who previously thought the cancer was in her past, is now eager to demonstrate that a full life is still possible after a cancer diagnosis. She is supporting Breast Cancer Now, a charity highlighting that nearly one million people are living with or beyond a breast cancer diagnosis in the UK.
