Heroic Organ Donation Saves Lives After Tragic Accident
17 May
Summary
- Organ retrieval completed early Saturday morning in Rohtak.
- Green corridors facilitated swift organ transport to Delhi and Chandigarh.
- Family consented to donation after counselling on saving lives.

Early Saturday morning, the organ retrieval process for Vishal, an employee of the Haryana irrigation department, concluded at PGIMS, Rohtak. Vishal had sustained severe head injuries in a motorcycle accident on May 13 after his bike hit a pothole.
Following his declaration of brain death, Vishal's family was counselled by hospital officials. They were informed of the potential for a brain-dead individual to save up to eight lives, leading them to consent to organ donation.
Green corridors were subsequently established by the Army and medical authorities, ensuring rapid transport of the vital organs. Vishal's heart was flown to a Delhi hospital, his liver to an Army hospital in Delhi, and a kidney was airlifted to an Army hospital near Chandigarh.
Medical experts emphasize that brain death is legally and medically recognized as death, even if bodily functions are maintained with ventilator support. This clarification aims to address misconceptions that may deter organ donation, highlighting that such acts can be a meaningful tribute and save multiple lives.
